I built Uptime Guard because UptimeRobot kept shrinking its free tier. I was running 20+ sites as an indie and every few months the free plan got worse: first the monitor count, then the check interval, then the paid plans jumped too.
So I shipped a browser-first alternative. Instead of a dashboard you're supposed to remember to check, Uptime Guard lives in your Chrome toolbar as a green or red badge — and if anything turns red, you get an email, a push notification, or a Slack/Discord ping within 30 seconds.
The free tier is genuinely usable — 3 monitors, SSL expiration alerts, the extension — and the Pro plan is $8/mo because I don't want another tool that punishes you for having a few side projects.
I write on this blog about uptime monitoring, SSL certificate expiry, reliability patterns, and the reality of shipping indie SaaS as a solo developer.
